DJL Memorial 10K

Story

I had forgotten that I had applied for the Cancer Research London Winter 10K run months ago and said I would volunteer at the race if I wasn't fit to run (which I'm not).  Then my race number arrived:  7759 - 7/5 was my dad's birthday and 79 would have been his next birthday, so I took that as a sign that I should run it in his memory.

I have already raised money and have been volunteering for CRUK so I am going to run this race to raise money for the Great Oaks Hospice, whose staff cared so compassionately for my dad in his last days at home - and they rely solely on voluntary contributions.  I know January is not a great time to be asking for sponsorship but if you can spare even a couple of pounds, it would be much appreciated as every little helps, thank you so much.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity.

The good news is I managed to run the whole way! The bad news is that it was my slowest ever 10k! The good news is I snuck in a few seconds under an hour at 59.51 and I got a polar bear hug and a Winter Run medal! The best news is that Great Oaks Hospice will benefit, thank you.

My sum total training is two bike rides and one training in the park session. It’s safe to say that I’ve never been so unprepared but, as my good friend Claire Scott says, where there’s a will, there’s a way! Watch this space....!!

The lurgy turned out to be laryngitis and a chest infection so I’ve been on a course of antibiotics which finish tomorrow so I hope I can do some form of training next week. Not ideal! 27.01.18

Oh dear, I’ve succumbed to the dreaded January lurgy 17 days before the race, will have a lot of catching up to do once I’ve recovered! Thank you to everyone who has generously donated so far. I hope to be able to post a training update soon! 19.01.18
